Hello Rockets!

This week, our message is from our very organized and helpful registrar, Kim Klement:

Hello Rockets!!

I'm Kim Klement and I am your campus registrar. Before moving to Cedar Park, our family lived in Dallas and I traveled the country managing and opening restaurants for Hillstone restaurant group. In 2006 my husband was transferred to Austin and we chose Cedar Park due to the outstanding reputation of LISD. When Westside opened, I was the PTA President for the first two years and have been here ever since! Now my children are at CPHS - one is a senior and on the Celebrity Dance Team and the other is a freshman on the drum line! My husband and I just celebrated our 20th anniversary this past Labor Day weekend, and we adopted a beautiful fur baby from Central Texas SPCA! I couldn’t be happier to share my life with these amazing people and our new dog out here in the "burbs".

The elementary registrar has many jobs - enroll/withdraw students, attendance, courses/schedules, educational records, report cards, legal matters regarding custody/student restrictions, reporting school data through P.E.I.M.S., - and that's just to name a few! Did you know that about 80% of our funding comes from taking attendance at 8:45am? If a student is at a doctor's appointment, they can bring a note from the doctor, come to school on the same day, and then no longer be absent! Also, there is a difference in excused vs. unexcused absences within LISD, and at a certain level, truancy processes will come into play. In addition to LISD guidelines, the state has a 90% rule which means your child could be retained if they exceed 18 absences for the year (TEA Code §25.092.) If your child is absent, please provide a signed note (from parent or doctor) within two days and include legal first/last name and student ID number. Attendance does matter, and it's something that I must balance every six weeks!

Please partner with us in making your child's education a priority!! And as always, if you have any questions, please let me know so we can collaborate on a resolution!
