Mr. Bailon-Valdez PhotoWith boundless enthusiasm and excitement, we would like to officially announce our new assistant principal, Jon Bailon-Valdez. Jon earned his Bachelor and Master degrees in education from the University of Texas at El Paso. Currently, he is working on his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from New Mexico State University. Jon will be moving to Austin this summer to join his spouse, Jacob, who recently earned a position as a senior business architect in Austin. Jon is a brother to four sisters and an uncle to 3 nieces and 3 nephews, who are all very important to him.

As a 14-year veteran in education, Jon has a diverse educational experience in PK-12, to include being an elementary teacher, science instructional coach and campus administrator at all three levels (elementary, middle and high). With these opportunities, Jon has enhanced his leadership skills, that include a robust foundation in best instructional practices, managing and overseeing student accountability, developing and implementing professional development, leading and managing programs, student interventions structures and proven methods to eliminate achievement gaps for both students and teachers.

As a devoted educator, Jon’s educational interests revolve around inclusiveness, equity, educational policy reform and social justice issues in education. In addition to his driven passion around educational change, his priority as an educational leader is to maintain student and teacher success, to include instilling the love of learning onto others. Jon’s dedication and perseverance will be great asset to our Westside Elementary team as we strive to Lead, Grow, and Inspire our students and Westside Community!
